Jacob Green was a traveling man / who turned a pretty head or two / until one day his luck ran out / when he charmed a girl named Sue.

Susie Gause was a beautiful girl, / with hair so fine and eyes so bold; / her lips were ripe like cherry wine, / but she wore a ring of gold.
Charlie Gause was a jealous guy, / and he caught young Jake with his Sue; / he called his friends all to gather round, / and he told them what to do:
“Toss this rope up over that limb, / and loop it into a noose; / drop it over young Jacob’s head / and make sure it don’t come loose.”
The moral of this story is clear: / it’s all about love and hate; / a cheatin’ heart may cut you down, / but by then it’s way too late.
